Be the best in California!

Qualifying for the California Bass Federation State Championship is the next step to being a champion in the CBF. At a minimum, you need to fish at least 3 events in one region and have earned a minimum number of points along the way to qualify. The CBF State Championship is an annual event somewhere in our beautiful state of California. We rotate the event from the north to central and then the south to provide the opportunity for anglers to fish closer to home for the State Championship. Your goal is simple…make the CBF State Team! Making the California Bass Federation State Team is the goal and dream for many CBF anglers. It is difficult and the best rise to the top. The top 12 finishing anglers make up the CBF State Team. The top 6 finishing boaters make the CBF State Team as boaters and the top 6 finishing co-anglers make the CBF State Team as co-anglers.

Format

The CBF State Championship is a boater/co-angler event. This is different than the regional qualifiers. Boaters compete amongst other boaters for their best 5 fish and the co-anglers compete amongst other co-anglers for their best 5 fish. There are separate payouts and options for the boaters vs. co-anglers. Boaters have control of the boat all day.

Entries

After the end of the CBF season in the late June timeframe, each region will have their CBF State Championship qualifiers identified and posted. The CBF State Tournament Director will mail out an invitation to all qualifiers about 30 days prior to the event based on how you qualified (Boater/Co-Angler). Qualified boaters do not have to fish as boaters and may elect to fish as co-anglers. You will need to send in your entry form designating boater or co-angler by the deadline to the CBF State Tournament Director.

Guaranteeing your spot

You can guarantee your spot to fish the CBF State Championship by sending in your entry with your corresponding partner’s name on the entry form. All partners must send in their paid registration by the deadlines to guarantee your spot in the CBF State Championship. For those without partners, you will be put on a waitlist based on the postmark of your entry.

Deadlines

State Championship Registration: All qualifiers will receive an invitation to the California Bass Federation State Championships via US Mail from the CBF State Tournament Director approximately 30 days prior to the event. Your boater/co-angler status will be noted on your invitation. You may guarantee your participation in the CBF State Championship by sending in your entry with a corresponding partner’s name on your entry form. All entries must be received by the CBF State Tournament Director by the Entry Receipt deadline noted or your entry may be forfeited. Registration deadlines will be noted on the invitation. Deadlines are as follows:

  • Entry Receipt deadline: All entries must be received by this deadline to be allowed to enter the CBF State Championships. Late entry acceptance will be at the discretion of the CBF State Tournament Director.
  • Non-Guaranteed Participation Entries:
    • Preferred Receipt Deadline: 10 days prior to the Entry Receipt deadline. Those entries received with no corresponding partner, will be placed on an entry acceptance list. Your entry acceptance order will correspond to the position you finished in your mother region. In the case of a tie, tie breakers will be determined by Rule #17 in the CBF Tournament Rules based on your entire season’s catch with no drops.
    • All entries received AFTER the Preferred Receipt Deadline and BEFORE the Entry Receipt Deadline will be placed on an entry acceptance list based on the postmark date of the envelope. In the case of a tie, tie breakers will be randomly determined based on receipt of the mail.
